SpectracarbTM Gas Diffusion Layers (GDL) have been in production for over twenty years and are widely used in government, academic and industry PEM and PAFC fuel cells, electrolyzers and other electrochemical devices, from developmental to full commercial scale.

SpectracarbTM GDL papers and panels consist of graphitized resin bonded carbon fibers that form porous sheets, with high electrical / thermal conductivity and chemical / corrosion resistance that control the proper flow of reactant gases (hydrogen and air) and the water transport in the membrane electrode assembly (MEA).

The Focus of Our Technology is Customer Driven /Customer Responsive GDL Development and Manufacturing to Meet Three Goals:
v Providing lower cost products that are interchangeable with other existing standard industry grades
v Development and production of unique GDL products meeting the specific requirements of customers
v Creation of “second/future generation” GDL products through both independent and contract research/joint development/engineering programs.

EFT manufactures the widest range of porous paper based GDL products available in the Industry.

Our Spectracarb production efforts have focused mainly on specialty processed thin papers and laminated multi-ply panels, with a wide range of densities and thicknesses ranging from 0.25 g/cm3 and one-tenth of a millimeter to 0.90 g/cm3 and four-millimeters, respectively. All Spectracarb GDL products are made in the USA.

In addition to EFT sponsored R&D, EFT maintains contract research/joint development programs related to customer specific GDL, and to the investigation of new materials, constructions and processing related to next generation GDL.

In conjuction with our European Agent, Caplinq Europe BV, we can provide direct customer/technical assistance to support commercial and development programs for various electrochemical applications.
